FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Iowa City, IA — ACT today announced the appointment of testing veteran John Weiner as its new Chief Assessment Officer.
“John is a respected and highly sought-after expert,” said ACT CEO Steve Tapp. “His focus has been on the intersection of measurement science and technology, and more recently, on the responsible and ethical use of technology-enabled assessments, including best practices for AI. We are excited to see how his expertise and insights help drive ACT into a technology-driven future.”
Before joining ACT, Weiner served as chief science officer at PSI Services LLC, where he led research and development, psychometrics, and assessment content departments. Additionally, he helped pioneer multiple solutions and innovations for organizations that provide talent assessment, certification, and professional licensing services.
Weiner has also played key leadership roles in professional testing and measurement industry associations such as the Association of Test Publishers and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. He was named a SIOP Fellow and was honored with the 2024 ATP Award for Professional Contributions and Service to Testing, one of the industry’s highest honors.
In the publishing space, Weiner co-authored the book “Online Recruitment and Selection” and contributed multiple chapters to the book “Next Generation Technology-Enhanced Assessment.” Additionally, he’s published numerous research papers on test security, online test proctoring versus onsite testing, and other testing validity topics, and co-led the development of the “ITC/ATP Guidelines for Technology-Based Assessment.”
A highly sought-after speaker, Weiner has delivered well over 150 national and international presentations and webinars, addressing practical and emerging issues in test design, technology-enhanced assessments, psychometrics, and legal aspects of assessment.
“I am deeply honored to join ACT,” said Weiner. “Assessment must be fair, scientifically rigorous, and responsive to the needs of diverse learners — and ACT is uniquely positioned to lead in that space.”
